For my final term paper I plan to research the market Mahane Yehuda in Jerusalem.

I will research the history of the market and the present conditions. I am particularly interested in the politics of the market during the sabbatical year of the Jewish land, called a shmitah year, where observant Jews do not buy produce from Israel and produce farmers let their land rest for a whole year.

I would like to find out if parts of the market are open during the Sabbath, and if sellers rent or buy their stalls.

I also hope to find more information on Palestinian involvement or what the site of the market was before 1948 and before it was a market.

I plan on creating a Powerpoint presentation to supplement my paper and show this to our class.
